Sheriff deputies deserve raises

I find it appalling that the Lake County Board, the Lake County Sheriff and Lake County Administrator Barry Burton care so little about our safety that they have ignored the fact that Lake County Sheriff's deputies have not had a raise, nor a renewed contract, since November of 2006.

I have to say shame on Barry Burton, shame on our county board, and most emphatically shame on our new sheriff Mark Curran for putting the interests of the men and women deputies, who put their lives on the line for all of us each and every day, on the backburner. In 2007 the Lake County Forest Preserve police got a new contract and a raise. In fact, nearly every county employee from a clerk to a building inspector got a raise recently; yet the men and women deputies have gotten nothing but empty promises.

The fact that our Lake County law enforcement officers have been without a contract for nearly two years is testament to their dedication to our safety -- and the lack thereof of our county officials.

Contact your county representative and tell them to give our law enforcement officers their raises and a new contract now.
