Wailin' this weekend at Fermilab
A chart-topping bluegrass trio featured regularly on National Public Radio's "A Prairie Home Companion" will bring its unique brand of roots music to the Fox Valley Saturday.
For many Wailin' Jennys fans, the concert at Fermilab in Batavia will be a rare opportunity to see the all-female act up close and personal after years of success in the group's native Canada.
The performance is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Ramsey Auditorium in Fermilab's Wilson Hall, at Kirk Road and Pine Street. Tickets are $18 for adults and $9 for ages 18 and younger.
The Wailin' Jennys play a largely acoustic and radio-friendly blend of bluegrass and pop music, heavily laden with harmonies.
The group's latest recording, "Firecracker," rose to No. 2 on the Amazon Top Sellers Chart after its August 2006 release and spent 30 weeks in the Top 5 of the Billboard Bluegrass chart.
The band continues to make frequent appearances on "A Prairie Home Companion" with Garrison Keillor and once performed alongside Roseanne Cash at the Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow. The group released two other albums, "40 Days" in 2004 and a self-titled EP in 2003, to much acclaim.
