Last week: Phil Mickelson won the Northern Trust Open at Riviera, beating Jeff Quinney by 2 strokes for his 33rd PGA Tour title. Mickelson has won 16 times in California and Arizona.

Notes: Woods will open against FBR Open winner J.B. Holmes. Woods, the Buick Invitational and Dubai Desert Classic winner in his lone starts this year, won in 2003 and 2004 and also reached the 2000 final, losing to Darren Clarke. Last week: Annika Sorenstam won the season-opening SBS Open at Turtle Bay for her 70th LPGA Tour title and first since September 2006. She birdied two of the last three holes for a 2-stroke victory over Russy Gulyanamitta, Laura Diaz and Jane Park.
