Government failed us once again at NIU
After the Northern Illinois University incident, I've noticed the usual rhetoric from the anti-gun zealots demanding even more gun laws. I do not think that laws are the problem.
There is a federal law in effect that stipulates a person must wait three days after completing legal paperwork before purchasing and possessing hand guns.
I've read in the news media that the perpetrator of this heinous act was discharged from the military due to psychological problems. The government agency could have easily checked this out from military records and stopped the purchase from occurring.
In light of the fact that this incident occurred so soon after a similar tragedy at Virginia Tech due to a mentally deranged man, it is astounding that this was again allowed to happen.
We do not need to add to the overwhelming number of gun laws now in effect. We need more effective people in government!
