Plan would rezone former strip club site

The site of a former strip club in unincorporated Geneva Township would be rezoned and eventually annexed into the city under a plan favored by a Kane County Board committee Tuesday.

The shuttered Thumper's Gentlemen's Club is expected to be redeveloped to better fit into Geneva's comprehensive plan for the area, county Development Director Phil Bus told the board's development committee.

The committee granted preliminary approval for the city's rezoning request; the change is expected to be approved by the full board next month.

The zoning change would prohibit another adult-themed business from opening there. The 40,000 square-foot parcel is located at 33W491 Route 38.

Geneva officials envision other commercial uses for the site as part of its east gateway revitalization plans. The land is east of the proposed Jain DeShanti Enclaves of Genea, a 15-acre mixed-use development on the southeast corner of Route 38 and Kirk Road.

Thumper's closed for good last year after its owner defaulted on his lease, failed to show up in court and had an $82,000 judgment placed against him. Its liquor license also expired.
