Cold contributed to rowing coach's death
An autopsy has determined that the death of a rowing coach who collapsed near a lagoon in Chicago's Lincoln Park was caused in part by exposure to frigid temperatures.
The Cook County medical examiner's office says 74-year-old Yuriy Kuperman was found Monday afternoon lying near the lagoon.
Friends say Kuperman coached a rowing team and would be dropped off at the lagoon in the morning before meeting his ex-wife for lunch. When he didn't call to set up their meeting, she went to the park and found him lying on the ground.
An autopsy determined Kuperman died of a combination of heart disease and exposure to the cold, and the death was ruled an accident.
