Campton Hills loses two properties
The Village of Campton Hills will allow two properties to disconnect from the village, an about-face from the village's previous stance of opposition against such reversals.
A parcel of about 70 acres owned by CJR Enterprises near Dittman and McDonald Roads and one of 25 acres owned by James Cartee and others will be removed from the village's boundaries, said Village Trustee Al Lenkaitis Jr.
Lenkaitis said due to pending litigation, he could not comment further on the disconnections.
Previously, Village President Patsy Smith had argued that allowing groups of property owners to disconnect from the village would pose a financial threat to the village in the form of reduced state revenue and motor fuel tax, and had said that the village had a duty to defend its original boundaries.
State law allows properties to disconnect from a new incorporation more easily within the first year after incorporation takes place, with only 51 percent of property owners needed to support the move to disconnect. In subsequent years, 100 percent of contiguous property owners are required to support a disconnection.
