Hoping to follow Lincoln's example

The candidates for Campton Hills would like to extend a collective and personal thank you to the dozens of volunteers who contributed their time and effort in the first village of Campton Hills election. Without all of you, this victory would not have been possible.

The residents of Campton Hills also deserve a big thank-you for using their right to vote and turning out in record numbers.

We also congratulate Carolyn Higgins on her win as village clerk. We were happy to hear the statement by a Free Us trustee candidate, "Whatever the majority of what this village wants is what we want."

In addition, the candidates for Campton Hills wish to reaffirm our pledge to protect our semirural lifestyle, keep our taxes low and live within our means. We will be working to represent and unite all residents.

Abraham Lincoln closed his second inaugural with the immortal words: "With malice toward none, with charity for all" and extolled his audience to "bind up the nation's wounds." Let us all pledge to do our part to bind up our community's wounds in the coming year.
