Off-duty suburban cop cleared in shooting
Chicago police say they have released without charges an off-duty suburban police officer involved in a fatal shooting on the city's South Side. Police spokesman David Banks said the officer from South suburban Robbins feared for his life when he was confronted on the sidewalk late Sunday night by a gun-wielding 35-year-old Cornell McKinney. Banks said the officer drew his own gun and shot McKinney, striking him in the chest and abdomen.
