Armed robber hits Gurnee gas station
A gunman robbed a Gurnee gas station Sunday night, and made off with about $1,200 cash.
The robbery occurred around 8 p.m. at the Shell station, 6050 Route 132. No one was hurt, and no shots were fired.
The male clerk was in a cooler area when the gunman entered the station, police said. No one else was present.
The thief approached the clerk, displayed his gun and forced the employee to go to the cash register and empty the money into a plastic bag, police said.
The thief then fled north on foot.
The gunman was described as being about 6 feet tall and weighing 215 to 225 pounds. He was wearing a black hat or ski mask, a blue New York Yankees jacket, a white shirt, faded baggy blue jeans and white athletic shoes, police said.
Police do not suspect the stickup is connected to other recent robberies in town.
The robbery is under investigation. Anyone with information can call Gurnee police at (847) 599-7000 or Lake County Crime Stoppers at (847) 662-2222.
