Shamrox' Miller has answers

He's a six-year National Lacrosse League veteran and the first player in Chicago Shamrox history. An all-star goaltender that stopped a league-high 602 shots last season.

But if you get past the No. 35 and the black and green mask -- the New York Titans did six times on Saturday as they defeated Chicago 14-9 -- you'd learn that Brandon Miller is just a normal guy with a not-so-normal job.

With another practice canceled on Friday night, lost equipment the latest reason, Miller had time to talk about everything from his first pro game to the actor people say he resembles to his trip to China this May with his brothers.

Q:What's the biggest misconception about lacrosse?

A: Watching from the stands you hear a lot of whacking and slashing. You would think, 'Wow, that's got to hurt.' But it's not as violent as it appears.

Q:Would you encourage your daughter Avery if she told you she wanted to play lacrosse?

A: She's loves playing lacrosse and hockey! She's a very active little kid.

Q:What do you enjoy about Chicago?

A: We've never had a lot of time down there, but we took in some jazz clubs. It seems to be a really happening city.

Q:What song do you listen to before a game?

A: Since I started in Chicago it's been Phil Collins' 'In the Air Tonight.' It seems to get me going.

Q:What do you remember about your first pro game?

A: I was a backup in Albany and our goalie got hurt in the first quarter so I ended up playing a good chunk of the game. It was a bang-bang play. I made the save and I said to myself, 'Holy $%#!, that was Jimmy Veltman!'

Q:When was the last time you asked for an autograph?

A: About two or three years ago from (hockey great) Mats Sundin outside the ACC (Air Canada Centre).

Q:If you could meet any athlete, dead or alive, who would it be?

A: Babe Ruth. I'm not a huge baseball fan, but he lived his life pretty wild off the field and still performed at such a high level on the field.

Q:Remind you of any teammates?

A: Yeah, but I don't want to get anyone in trouble!

Q:Who plays the leading role in the movie about your life?

A: That's so funny you mentioned that, because my wife (Alisa) and I have these conversations. One time I told her that somebody came up to me and said that I looked like Russell Crowe. My wife said, "Come on!" Two weeks later, this lady came up to us and told me the same thing. My wife started laughing again, so I said, "See, I told you!"

Q:You get to travel a lot during the season, but where would your dream vacation be?

A: I'm lucky enough to be doing that in May. My brother Kyle had an unfortunate accident about five years ago where he developed (bone) cancer. He recovered and made Team Canada and they went on and beat the U.S. in the final of the World Lacrosse Championships. You think he's got a leg, but he's got a titanium rod for a shin. My step-brother Josh wrote a story about it for this contest Samsung was running with the Olympics coming up. The story won and Kyle is going to run with the Olympic torch. It's crazy.
