Thanks for story on adopting older dogs

Thank you for publishing the story about Young at Heart Pet Rescue's efforts to create a sanctuary for senior pets ("Looking to help old friends," Feb. 10). I adopted my dog from that organization in 2006 and encourage others to adopt older dogs and cats, as well. Found as a stray and estimated to be six years old at the time, my little Chihuahua/Manchester terrier still has plenty of spunk two years later.

Older animals can make great pets. They're calmer than younger ones, don't chew and are likely to be housetrained. Young at Heart provides such a needed, wonderful service, and I wish them luck in fulfilling their dream of a sanctuary.
