Chicago museum offers virtual tour of 1893 fair
Chicago's Museum of Science and Industry occupies the last surviving building from the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition, the fabled "White City."
And this weekend, a limited number of visitors had a chance to make a virtual visit to that vanished world.
A computer-generated model of the fairgrounds was being projected on a movie screen. It's meant to give guest the sensations walking through the fair or gliding in electric gondolas along its canals. They can even fly over the fairgrounds in a hot-air balloon.
The temporary exhibit is part of the 75th anniversary of the museum, which is housed in the building that served as the expo's Palace of Fine Arts 115 years ago.
