Huskies on hold

The Northern Illinois athletic department is joining the rest of the university community in observing a week of healing in the wake of Thursday's campus shootings in DeKalb.

Northern Illinois will not compete in any athletic events until Monday, Feb. 25. A total of 25 Huskies athletic competitions between Friday and Sunday, Feb. 24 will be canceled or rescheduled.

"At a time like this," said NIU athletic director Jim Phillips, "it is critically important for us to focus on coming together as a university to overcome this terrible tragedy."

NIU President Dr. John Peters said Saturday that faculty and staff will return to work on Tuesday.
