Abbott drug wins approval

LIBERTYVILLE TOWNSHIP -- Abbott Laboratories won U.S. approval for Simcor, a combination pill to lower harmful cholesterol and increase the beneficial type. Simcor adds Abbott's Niaspan to a generic version of Merck & Co.'s Zocor. The Food and Drug Administration cleared the medicine for marketing, the company said Friday.
