High school should have later start
High schoolers often run on low amounts of sleep staying up late at night and waking up early in the morning. Therefore, how is it fair for them to go to school at the outrageous hour of 7:30 a.m.? Kids living farther away have to wake up as early as 5 a.m. to get ready! I know that the main issue is the bus system and having to stagger it, so why not push it back an hour or two?
In other regions, high school starts at 9 a.m. and gets out at 4 p.m. This is perfect because grade school and middle school children can be bused at usual times, and high schoolers (whose internal clocks are tuned later) can be bused after them.
Then the issue is after school activities. My proposal is that the school incorporates a sort of study hall period for athletes to get homework and studying in, that way they aren't staying out late either; that or they can shorten practices.
