Villages to offer tips on going green

So you did the environmental thing and switched to compact fluorescent light bulbs -- only to find out they must be disposed of safely because they contain mercury.

Elk Grove Village will help you out.

They now have a container where you can safely dispose of the light bulbs at the village hall, 901 Wellington Ave.

Before placing them in the containers, they should be put in small sandwich plastic bags, Trustee Jeffrey Franke said.

The containers, along with the extra bag, will help contain the mercury should the bulb break.

Speaking of green … : If you are considering making your home more green, a presentation Thursday can help.

Des Plaines' new environmental group, Deep Green, will host a meeting at 7 p.m. at the library, 1501 Ellinwood Ave. Realtor Celeste Karan will discuss things people can do to green their homes.
