Elmhurst reaches out to NIU: Elmhurst College will organize and host a series of events in an effort to extend condolences and a helping hand to Northern Illinois University. A campus delegation will travel to DeKalb tonight to take place in vigils and services. The college also will assist in a vigil 6 p.m. tonight at Elmhurst Presbyterian Church, 367 S. Spring Road. The church is located across from York High School, the alma mater of shooting victim Daniel Parmenter. Another vigil, at Elmhurst College itself, begins at 9 p.m. tonight in the Hammerschmidt Memorial Chapel. There also will be a moment of silence before the start of the Elmhurst men's basketball game at 7:30 p.m., Saturday. Elmhurst students have an area of the Frick Center reserved to write messages to NIU. Meanwhile, the Elmhurst Police Department has increased its patrols at Elmhurst College campus because of the events at NIU.
