'Les Mis' at Marriott

Broadway phenom "Les Miserables," Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg's musical adaptation of Victor Hugo's novel about the fugitive Jean Valjean and the obsessive Inspector Javert who pursues him, began previews this week at Marriott Theatre.

American dreams

Evanston's Next Theatre pairs the opera "Trouble in Tahiti" -- Leonard Bernstein's ode to marital discord -- with new works by Michael Mahler ("How Can You Run With a Shell on Your Back"), House Theatre's Kevin O'Donnell ("The Sparrow") and Josh Schmidt ("The Adding Machine") in a program titled "The American Dream Songbook."
