These DVDs were released this week

"Gone Baby Gone"

Ben Affleck makes his directorial debut with this excellent mystery. Casey Affleck, Ed Harris, Morgan Freeman and Amy Ryan star in a twist-filled tale about a young girl who has been kidnapped. This adult thriller is one of the best films of the year.

"Becoming Jane"

Anne Hathaway stars as 20-year-old Jane Austen, who falls in love with a law student (James McAvoy), which does not please her family. She pursues the romance, while taking time to write, which is her other passion. The story shows how events in Jane's life shaped her literary works.

"No Reservations"

Catherine Zeta-Jones plays the good-but-difficult chef at a successful New York restaurant. Her life changes when her sister is killed and she becomes the guardian of her young niece. At the same time, another chef (Aaron Eckhart) is hired to work with her. It's a lot of fun watching them go at each other. Bob Balaban is terrific as her psychologist.

"We Own the Night"

Joaquin Phoenix and Mark Wahlberg play brothers in this character-driven crime drama. Wahlberg follows in the footsteps of his father (Robert Duvall) on the police force, while Phoenix manages a nightclub filled with Russian mobsters. We see the family dynamic at play, along with betrayal, loyalty and lots of violence.
