Let's give schools what they need

Congratulations to all the St. Charles Park District residents who supported the tax referendum of $25 million. I hope you are as generous when the school district requests $70 million for school construction and improvement.

Surely our educational system is more important then our park system. The school district has been trying to pass its referendum for several years. Who would think that parks would trump education?

I know when I chose to move to the St. Charles area the primary driver was the quality of its schools not the quality of its parks (they were somewhere down the list, important but not essential).

Parks are beautiful to look at and nice to visit, two or three times a year when our busy lives allow. Swimming pools are nice three months out of the year.

Schools, on the other hand, build a lifetime of productivity and increase the quality of life for all. An educated community will afford that community the amenities such as parks, but without an educated community none of these would be possible.

So, all I ask is when the referendum for schools shows up -- and we all know it's coming -- please have the foresight to support that referendum for the good of all our community, future and present.
