Sweety pleasers

A lot of jewelry is being purchased today. And a lot of spa gift certificates. And a lot of gadgets.

With Valentine's Day just hours away, it's time for you procrastinators to get moving. Below are some gift ideas from the big three categories.

Jewelry

• Tweety -- yes, as in the yellow cartoon bird -- is now the subject of a new fine jewelry line. Not sure how I feel about this, but yellow is trendy this spring, and celebrities like Jordin Sparks, Avril Lavigne and Perez Hilton think it's cool. See the line at www.tweetyfinejewelry.com. Items available at C.D. Peacock stores.

• A math equation all men should know: blue Tiffany & Co. box = great gift. This sterling silver and rose gold Elsa Peretti Open Heart pendant is one example of the store's many Valentine's Day offerings. ($405, at Tiffany & Co.)

• Local jewelry designer Dana Levy's new line of Dana Rebecca stud earrings boasts simplicity and elegance. These jade earrings have .43 carats of diamonds and chrysoprase. ($1,320, www.danarebeccadesigns.com)

Spa

• Essie is out with a cool, new line of pastel-colored nail polish that includes a pretty light lavender ("Looking for Love") and pale pink ("Hi Maintenance"). The colors are all subtle and very springlike. ($8 per bottle at local salons and spas. See www. essie.com.)

• The Asha SalonSpa now offers a Rhinestone Studded Heart Bikini Wax ($50).

Confused? The service "grooms your bikini area" in the shape of a heart and then adds some sparkle or color to it. Rhinestones are an extra $10, and color is also an extra $10. Won't that surprise him?

• Mario Tricoci's new skin care line, Nature's Alternative, contains products that cleanse, clarify, revive and protect skin.

The salon also started a service that allows you to create your own hue of lipstick for $25. That could be a thoughtful gift.

• A gift women might enjoy is Thursday night's special event at the Silken Tent Spa. It begins with candlelight yoga at 5:30 p.m., followed by a create-your-own-lingerie presentation and then a makeup demonstration. Wine, champagne and Vosges chocolates will be served, and raffle prizes will be given away every 10 minutes. Guests will be asked to donate $10 (or more) to help women living with breast cancer have a spa day. Silken Tent is at 2300 Chestnut Ave., Glenview. (847) 510-1240 or www.silkententspa.com.

Gadgets

• Stay put, pants! If your pants get stuck in your shoes when you walk, try the Pants Stay Put sticks. Iron little pockets on the inside of your pants and insert the Pants Stay Put sticks -- and the problem is gone. ($19, www.pantsstayput.com)

• Isn't jewelry hard to take on and off sometimes? That's why someone invented the Clever Clasp. It fastens your jewelry together with powerful magnets. ($9.99, in drugstores and big box stores)

• For men, Chicago-based Stayclip makes brushed metal collar stays with special messages on them. Examples include "I Love You" and "You're so sexy!" ($45-$74.95, www.stayclip.com)

Other news

• From now through Tuesday, you can enter Macy's Valentine's Day Sweepstakes and win a four-day/three-night trip to Las Vegas to see the Beatles LOVE Cirque du Soleil. No purchase necessary. Go to www.macys.com/love for details.
