Barrington 63, Libertyville 56
Barrington was 0-for-2008 coming into Tuesday's nonconference boys basketball game with visiting Libertyville.
But the Broncos (7-18) snapped their 8-game losing streak as Mack Darrow scored a game-high 24 points and sophomore Kyle O'Keefe added 13 points in a 63-56 victory.
"We played very well," said Barrington coach Marty Dello. "It was a great effort. We shot the ball well (50 percent) and that's been a goal of ours all season."
Darrow hit three 3-pointers and O'Keefe was 4-for-9 behind the arc in his second varsity game.
"He did a nice job," Dello said. "He does other things. He had some nice post feeds and played solid 'D.'"
Peter Leonard added 8 points and Charlie Douglas had 6 first-half points. Bryant Sullivan (6 points) and Ryan Nolan provided a big boost after not playing in the first half.
"They played down the stretch and did an awesome job," Dello said. "Guys just stepped up and it was really awesome to see."
Jeremy Letchford had 14 points and Paul Aynilian and Joey Aiello added 11 apiece for Libertyville (8-13) in its fifth straight loss.
Maine South 61, Fremd 36: It's no secret that tough defense and great low-post scoring will win a lot of games.
Fremd found that out the hard way Tuesday night against visiting Maine South.
Six-4 senior forward Joe Kozak scored a game-high 27 points, and an energetic zone defense didn't give Fremd many chances in a 61-36 Maine South nonconference victory.
"We're a young team, but we're headed in the right direction," said Maine South coach Tony Lavorato Jr. of his squad, which starts a freshman and two sophomores.
"We've gotten to the point where we understand what we're supposed to be doing."
Fremd junior guard Dan Bruno led the Vikings with 10 points, all in the second half.
"I felt that we didn't come to play tonight, mentally or physically," said Fremd coach Bob Widlowski. "We've been playing well of late, but this was a step backward."
Kozak also grabbed a game high 10 rebounds and 6-6 sophomore Kevin Schlitter added 10 points and 4 boards as Maine South (8-15) built a 20-point lead early in the fourth quarter.
Chris Klimek and Will Reising each scored 7 points for Fremd.
