Two Carpentersville men die, drug overdose suspected

A pair of Carpentersville men died of apparent drug overdoses Sunday, police said Monday.

The two men, 18 and 20 years old, had been together Saturday night when they apparently took oxycodone, a painkiller used to treat moderate and severe pain, police said.

Police are not naming the two men, pending clearance from the Kane County Coroner's Office, Carpentersville Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne said.

The coroner's office said it won't reveal the names until Tuesday morning.

A third person who had also ingested oxycodone was taken to the hospital, police said.

The substance hasn't been linked to any other deaths in Carpentersville and police continue to investigate where the men got the drug.

"We don't believe the drug was prescribed to them," Kilbourne said.

On Sunday at 8:58 a.m., police and paramedics responded to the 300 block of Tulsa Avenue, where they found the unresponsive 20-year-old. He was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he was pronounced dead.

At 2:45 p.m., police and paramedics were called to the 100 block of North Grove Street, where the 18-year-old was pronounced dead.

Though it appears the two men overdosed on the prescription drug, the coroner's office is running autopsies and toxicology tests to confirm that.

Police urge anyone who runs across oxycodone to use it only when a doctor prescribes it and according to its instructions.
