Former inspector sentenced for accepting bribe
A former inspector for the city of Chicago has been sentenced to three months in prison and seven months of home confinement for accepting a bribe.
Miguel Diaz was one three city workers and a contractor arrested last March on federal payoff charges with the help of the city's inspector general
Diaz, a 10-year city employee who was forced to resign, has been incarcerated in the Metropolitan Correctional Center in downtown Chicago since mid-November, meaning he is expected to be released to home confinement soon.
Despite the light sentence, U.S. District Judge Charles Norgle told Diaz he didn't want him leaving the court just thinking the charges he was convicted of were minor.
Diaz, who pleaded guilty in October, was among city employees snared by David Johnson, a city inspector who worked undercover for law enforcement.
