Ex-Fire keeper on London team:

Former Chicago Fire goalkeeper Matt Pickens has signed a short-term deal with the Queen's Park Rangers, a Championship tier club in London.

Pickens, 25, had tryout with two other European clubs before he signed with QPR. He'll compete against the Rangers' Lee Camp.

"I'm not the kind of goalkeeper who will be content with being a number two, but we'll have to wait and see what happens," Pickens said in a release on the QPR Web site.

• In other news, the Fire beat the University of South Florida 2-1 in the team's second preseason scrimmage in Bradenton, Fla., on Sunday. Floyd Franks and Zach Pope tallied goals for the Fire.
