Community should be rich in art

To the editor: With regard to the letter published Jan. 21 concerning the proposed Bartlett Cultural Center:

Mr. Difazzio is one of the millions of Americans who do not see the arts as something integral to our lives. Our culture is eroding because of a lack of emphasis in the arts. America is the world's foremost political and economic power. Our culture directs us to focus on training our children in technology and the sciences. That is fine, but what will become of our souls?

I applaud Bartlett for being one of the few communities who care enough about the arts to raise the question of having a building dedicated to visual and performing arts for enriching lives through performance and education.

Perhaps the people of Barrington are wealthier in their wallets, but a community that wants to bring the arts to life and is passionate about, can and will achieve it.
