The briefs: 'Be A Buckle Buddy'
'Be A Buckle Buddy'
The "Be A Buckle Buddy" program, which encourages motorists to dial a toll-free number if they see children riding in other vehicles without seat belts, has landed in Algonquin. All a witness has to do is dial *333, report the offender's license plate number, vehicle description, city and county. The registered owner of the vehicle then receives an informational packet explaining the program, and giving information on child passenger safety and Illinois state law. You don't need to leave your name if you're making the call. Call (847) 658-4531.
East Dundee cuts salt use
East Dundee will restrict salt use to inclines and major intersections until further notice. The restriction is due to an uncertainty of further salt availability this season. The department of public works urges motorists to use caution while driving on icy roads. Increase the distance between you and other cars and limit unnecessary trips when the weather is bad. Call (847) 844-1256.
Dist. 300 weighs new policy
Community Unit District 300 is laying the groundwork to add new sports at Hampshire High School. District officials said they plan to introduce new sports when the school opens in the fall, including the first wrestling program in Hampshire history. But the district first must establish a policy for adding new sports. The policy would list a number of criteria a school would have to meet before adding a sport. "As long as those basic guidelines were met, they would not have to come to the board each and every time they wanted a sport," policy committee chair John Ryan said.
