Toastmasters meet in Elgin

Toast of the Fox Toastmasters Club 8325 will meet from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Feb. 26 at its new meeting location, Elgin Academy-Sears Hall, 350 Park St. Elgin.

Membership is open to adults who would like to improve their communication skills. Visitors are welcome.

Since its founding in 1924, Toastmasters International has helped over four million men and women develop their public speaking skills and become confident communicators.

Toastmasters International is a nonprofit organization with approximately 200,000 members, and over 10,500 clubs in more than 90 countries.

The local Toast of the Fox club meets regularly on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Elgin Academy.

Oak Crest hosts monthly book sale

Oak Crest Residence and Atrium Apartments in Elgin invites the community to attend its monthly book sale from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday in the atrium, 204 S. State St.

The book sale has a large selection of gently used books, CDs and VHS movies. The book sale has over a thousand book titles for you to peruse. Books are added routinely to the collection. Most of the books are in mint condition. Hard-covers are $1 and paperbacks are 50 cents.

Preschool holding registration now

New Creations Preschool begins registration for the 2008-09 school year.

Classes are forming for 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Cost is $185 per month.

Or class from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday for $130 per month.

There is a $75 non-refundable registration fee. The child-to-teacher ratio is 20 to 2.

New Creations Preschool is extending its class length from 2.5 hours to 3 hours to enhance the children's learning experience. Registration is beginning now.
