Autopsy today for St. Charles teen who collapsed during drill practice
Family members remember Lauren Laman of St. Charles as a sweetheart.
"She's a beautiful 18-year-old girl," said her aunt Mary Mazzulla. "Very bubbly, very loving and a deeply caring person."
Laman, a St. Charles North High School senior, died Friday after she collapsed during a drill team practice at the school. The cause of her death has not yet been determined, but an autopsy is scheduled today. Funeral arrangements are pending, family members said.
Laman was very devoted to the drill team and planned to attend Northern Illinois University in the fall, Mazzulla said. She had high hopes to earn a degree in dance.
"She eventually wanted to open a dance studio when she grew up," Mazzulla said.
Lauren was the youngest of four children, and had three older brothers.
"She was just a very devoted daughter, and a very devoted sister," her aunt said. "They have a very close-knit family."
Mazzulla said Lauren always was smiling, always befriended everyone and will be deeply missed.
"She's got the most beautiful eyes and smile, and gorgeous dimples," she said. "She's a very, very gorgeous girl."
St. Charles North High School will have grief counselors available for students throughout the week.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
