St. Charles North drill team mourns senior

The St. Charles North High School community was in mourning Saturday after the death of senior Lauren Laman.

Lauren died Friday after she collapsed during a drill team practice at the school, officials said.

"We at St. Charles North High School are deeply affected by the loss of one of our students," Area Assistant Superintendent Ronald Knapik said. "On the evening of Feb. 8, a student collapsed during drill team practice. She was immediately transported by emergency medical services to Delnor-Community Hospital where she passed away."

Knapik said grief counselors were available Saturday for students, parents and staff and will continue to be available this week.

School officials would not comment further.

Fellow drill team members and Lauren's family and friends gathered Saturday night to remember Lauren and were not available for comment.

The cause of death has not been determined.

Kane County Coroner Chuck West said an autopsy will be performed Monday afternoon.
