Police beat
• A burglary occurred about 3:45 p.m. Friday on Meyer Street in Elgin. According to police reports, a DVD player and video recorder were taken from the home, along with an iPod and miscellaneous DVDs. The home's dining room had a three-foot hole punched into it, the report said.
• A car that caused a hit-and-run accident was stolen from a garage on Hill Avenue in Elgin early Saturday morning, police said. According to reports, a license plate belonging to a green Pontiac Grand Prix was found at the intersection of Dwight and Liberty streets where the accident occurred. Police found the owner of the car, who said he possessed both sets of keys. The case is under investigation.
• A suspicious incident occurred on Meyer Street in Elgin at 11 p.m. Friday, police said. Police were dispatched to the residential street after hearing a report of gun shots. One resident said he heard shots coming from the south of the residence. Another resident said he heard about five shots coming from the same location.
