Last day to see 'The Love Potion'

Elgin OPERA wraps up its production today of "L'Elisir d'Amore" by Donizetti at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin.

In "The Love Potion," Nemorino believes the only way to win the love of Adina is with a magical love potion. Dr. Dulcamara sells him a bottle of cheap wine that he calls "Tristan's Magic Love Potion." Of course, the wine is not magical but Nemorino believes it is, especially when all the young ladies are after him. What he does not know is that his uncle has died and left him millions. With one drink, he gains the confidence he needs to win Adina's heart and the opera ends with the celebration of "The Love Potion."

The New Millenium Orchestra will accompany the professional lead singers and Elgin OPERA's chorus of 40 singers, under the direction of Maestro Francesco Milioto.

More than a hundred people from the Chicago and suburban area are participating in this comic opera, sung in Italian with English supertitles.

An additional private performance for the residents and guests of Sun City-Huntley will be presented at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 at Drendel Hall in Huntley with piano accompaniment by Chiayi Lee.

Tickets are $40 for the main floor or $30 for balcony. For details, call the Hemmens box office at (847) 931-5900 or visit www.cityofelgin.org.
