Ice falls, strikes pedestrian on Sears Tower

Chicago police say a man struck on the head by falling ice while he was walking outside the Sears Tower is in good condition.

Police say the incident occurred late Friday and that the unidentified man was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Authorities say the incident, including where the ice came from, is under investigation.

Earlier this month, Sears Tower management turned off the building's electrical snow melting system after three women received mild electrical shocks while walking outside the building.

Police said the heating grates used to melt snow off the sidewalk apparently malfunctioned. One woman was treated for a twisted ankle.
