Scientist upset at where money flows

This is in response to your Jan. 30 editorial, "Paying dearly for living beyond our means."

As a taxpayer who sees nearly 50 percent of his income disappear into various government coffers while CEOs, top executives and others make thousands times my income and pay fewer taxes percentage-wise, I detest what our political class has wrought.

Your editorial commented how, under these circumstances, the private sector would respond with layoffs, budget cuts and reduced services.

I will remind you that you have a government entity in the Fox Valley which has delivered exemplary performance for the money spent and for this outstanding performance, has been rewarded with layoffs, employee furloughs (a 10-plus percent pay cut) and drastically reduced budget.

Maybe Fermilab should have fouled up and gotten its budget increased for doing so?

I am a Fermilab scientist and so have a bit of a conflict of interest here, but I watch our government continually dump money into failing or down-right crooked projects and programs.
