Police bust Hoffman Estates pot operation

A Hoffman Estates man has been charged after police said they found a sophisticated marijuana growing operation inside his apartment.

Adam McElroy, 22, of 2060 Hassell Road, No. 201, was charged with unlawful production of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Hoffman Estates Sgt. Jim Campbell said an ongoing narcotics investigation led police to McElroy.

On Tuesday, local police and members of the Northwestern Police Alarm System executed a search warrant at McElroy's apartment and found the growing operation, which contained 30 potted marijuana plants and five pounds of marijuana, Campbell said. The marijuana had a street value of $15,000.

McElroy was also charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition without a firearm owner's ID. Campbell said police found a 12-gauge shotgun in the apartment.

McElroy was released on $20,000 bond with a March 6 court date in Rolling Meadows.

Campbell said Dane McElroy, 26, of the same address, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and was released on $1,000 bond.
