Elgin mother charged with hurting boy
A 22-year-old Elgin mother was accused Friday of fracturing her 3-year-old son's skull, police said.
Rebecca L. Elliott of 1304 Amanda Circle, was charged with aggravated battery, according to court records.
The boy and his 9-month-old brother were removed from the home and put with a foster family, said Kendall Marlowe, spokeswoman for the Department of Children and Family Services.
"We are still investigating the case. We had no prior contact with the family," Marlowe said.
When Elgin police responded to Elliott's home Feb. 3, she told them she meant to frighten her son by throwing a plastic baby bottle against a wall, officials said.
Instead, the bottle hit the boy on the head and he was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a skull fracture, police said.
Assistant Kane County State's Attorney Andrew Whitfield asked Friday for an $8,000 bond for Elliott based on the child's injury.
When Elliott was asked in court if she had anything to say, she replied, "I need help."
Kane County Judge Susan Clancy Boles set Elliott's bond at $1, 000.
She will not be allowed to see her two children until after her Feb. 22 court appearance at the Kane County Judicial Center.
Elliott was held Friday in the Kane County jail.
