Dalton's accusation leaves her offended

It has come to my attention recently that John Dalton and the organization he has formed, Speak Out Against Prejudice (SOAP), has labeled people agreeing with Association for Legal Americans as "racist."

I am offended by that. Dalton does not know me or my friends who agree with this organization.

I have several Hispanic friends, a Hispanic son-in-law I love, and I live in an integrated neighborhood in Elgin that is at least 50 percent Hispanic. I have no desire to move. We all get along great. So, please, before you start labeling people, make an effort to get to know them.

I believe I can be a Christian and at the same time expect people to obey the laws of this land. This is not too much to expect of anyone, no matter what race they are. Why should we make exceptions for anyone?

My property taxes have gone up considerably in the past nine years due to the high illegal Hispanic population. Our U-46 schools here are bursting at the seams and our legal citizens here are being forced to cut back just to pay these high taxes.

Where is the sympathy for us? Elgin has been a "magnet" for illegal immigrants for too long. In my opinion, it needs to stop.
