Two hurt in Geneva crash
Slippery roads might have contributed to a two-vehicle crash that seriously injured an Addison woman Thursday in Geneva, police said.
Martha E. Solis, 39, was flown to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after the collision on Peck Road, north of Heartland Road, about 7:30 a.m. She was listed in serious condition Thursday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
"All indications lead us to believe, at least to some extent, the road conditions played a role," Geneva Police Cmdr. Steve Mexin said, adding that neither alcohol nor drugs appeared to be factors. "The road was icy, slushy and very slippery."
Solis was riding in the passenger seat of a southbound Ford Ranger when the driver, Guadalupe Rivas-Valdez, 41, of Addison, lost control of the truck, Mexin said. The Ranger slid sideways into the path of a northbound Toyota Sequoia driven by Lori Hansen, 48, of Geneva, police said. Hansen's car then slammed into the passenger side of the truck, trapping Solis inside, reports said.
After firefighters freed Solis from the wreckage, she was flown to the hospital. Rivas-Valdez also was hospitalized, but with "less severe" injuries than his passenger, Mexin said. Neither Hansen nor the three passengers in her car were injured.
Mexin said the crash remained under investigation, and police had not determined whether any traffic citations would be issued.
The accident was near the Kane County Judicial Center along Route 38. Part of Peck Road was shut down for roughly two hours while authorities investigated.
