Carpentersville to get help from friends in emergencies

In cases of emergency, Carpentersville police often turn to neighboring law enforcement agencies for assistance.

That pact was formalized Tuesday when the village board approved the Kane County Area Police Emergency Aid Plan Agreement.

The contract enables the village to utilize the services of the Kane County Major Crimes Task Force and the Kane County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team.

"The Carpentersville Police Department benefits from participation in interagency mutual aid and task force operations … when critical events require resources beyond those immediately available within the Department," Police Chief David Neumann wrote in a board report.

Neumann said the agreement affords the Carpentersville police department with additional law enforcement personnel, equipment and investigative expertise.

Carpentersville drew on the major crimes task force to assist with the 2006 kidnapping of a family that was taken from a Round Lake Beach restaurant to a home in Carpentersville.

The department also participates in other mutual aid services like the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System.

"We are happy to be able to share the resources and manpower of agencies around us when incidences occur," said Cmdr. Michael Kilbourne, the police spokesman. "We need to assist other agencies when emergencies occur with the knowledge that they are going to assist us back."
