Briefs: Libertyville trustee resigns
Longtime Libertyville village Trustee Dean Larson has resigned and will be honored next week by being named the community's first village historian. In a recent letter to Mayor Jeff Harger, Larson said he stepping down because of health reasons. He has served on the board since 1993 and was noted for his expertise in local history. Larson, 77, came to the village in 1958 as a high school government and American history teacher. He retired as assistant superintendent of Libertyville High School in 1992. The village board will officially accept his resignation at its regular meeting at 8 p.m. Tuesday at village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave.
Come meet charter school
Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake announced Thursday it'll host a special event offering local residents a chance to see why it is different. Called "Experience PCCS," the free event is slated from 10 a.m. to noon at the school's Comstock Building/Helle Hall, 1591 Jones Point Road. Prairie Crossing fifth/sixth grade teacher Chris Hershiser and a former eighth-grade instructor, Karen Achtemeier, are the scheduled presenters. Prairie Crossing is a kindergarten-through-eighth-grade school known for an environmentally focused curriculum. Children living in the boundaries of Fremont Elementary District 79 and Woodland Elementary District 50 are eligible to attend Prairie Crossing. Parents living outside districts 50 and 79 may pay out-of-area tuition for their children to attend Prairie Crossing.

Grayslake Elementary District 46 has announced another opportunity for residents to engage in casual discussion with Superintendent Ellen Correll. Her chat session is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. before the District 46 board meets at Grayslake Middle School, 440 N. Barron Blvd. Residents may discuss topics of interest with Correll. Coffee and cookies will be provided.
Library says keep books
As the Cook Memorial Public Library District changes computer systems, officials say patrons with items due this Monday through Wednesday can keep them an extra week. All such items automatically have been renewed. During the transition, some library services will not be available. For example, fines and bills can't be paid this Monday through Wednesday, held items will not be available for pickup and materials cannot be renewed.
