Briefs: Buffalo Grove police seek robber

A man displayed a handgun in a Buffalo Grove convenience store Wednesday, but he left without taking anything, police said. The man entered the Buffalo Grove Pantry, 233 Dundee Road, around 6:25 p.m. and asked for a pack of cigarettes. When the clerk put the cigarettes on the counter, the man grabbed her arm and pulled out a handgun. The clerk broke free and ran to the back room where she called 911, and the man left without taking anything, police said. Police said the case may be similar to ones in Palatine, Arlington Heights and Lake Zurich and officers are working with those departments.

The Arlington Heights man who was recently charged with his sixth driving under the influence offense has been released from the hospital, according to a hospital spokesman. Steven N. Salzman, 44, failed several field sobriety tests after running the traffic light at Arlington Heights and Central roads at around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, police said. Salzman was also charged with not having a valid Illinois driver's license. His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 28.
