Toll enforcement must be reformed

I have to applaud Joe Ryan's recent columns about toll gridlock and the Illinois Tollway being out of control. I have to agree with State Rep. Paul Froehlich, Democrat from Schaumburg, that reform of the tollway's collection and enforcement functions is necessary.

I discussed the tollway's problems in these areas with Paul in a recent phone conversation. He and I were in complete agreement some changes need to be made to protect the consumer without letting toll scofflaws drive the tollways for free.

Our conversation touched on various other political subjects as well, including transit bailouts and the governor. I greatly admire Paul's act of conscience in dumping the Illinois Republican Party and becoming an Illinois Democrat when the actions of the former group no longer seemed appropriate to him. Excellent move, Paul.
