Blagojevich does irreparable damage

After a year of embarrassments and bickering, and with only days to go before real transportation problems came into play for working people, Gov. Blagojevich agreed to work out a solution with the legislature if it gave him another perk to gain favor with seniors in the form of free rides for them.

Two questions came to mind: Why did he wait so long and why further antagonize these legislators by springing another surprise at the last minute?

It was a nice political maneuver by him and he knows politicians would be reluctant to appear to be uncaring.

Any definition of a politician would include synonyms such as shrewd and negotiate, but also words like prudent, compromise and judicious. Blagojevich's juvenile behavior, extravagant spending and stubborn attitude are not what most voters expected.

He antagonized many by calling special sessions, many which he did not attend but expensive just the same.

A stubborn governor who acts like a juvenile does irreparable damage. There is little chance of trust and compromise when someone in power is so antagonistic.

This problem does not rest solely on the leadership. Those voters who vote blindly or not at all, those voters who are too busy to be interested or involved and rely on government to solve all problems, this becomes a scary situation.

There is a term "the best government is the least government" and it is not being heard. Corruption is still going on, business continues as usual in Springfield and it appears that the year 2008 will not bring any change.
