Irving Park Road shut down as crews battle fire

Irving Park Road has been shut down between Schaumburg and Sutton roads while firefighters battle a garage fire in unincorporated Hanover Township.

The Bartlett Fire Protection District at 4:15 p.m. was called to a house on the 100 block of Gromer Road on reports of smoke, Cook County sheriff's department spokeswoman Penny Mateck said.

The fire is contained to the garage, but authorities had to close Irving Park Road in order to run water hoses in the street. Mateck didn't know when it would reopen.

Several fire departments have been dispatched to the scene.
