Titanic tilt a one-sided affair in favor of Duke

Duke's depth really took care of short-handed North Carolina, keeping the second-ranked Blue Devils alone atop the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Greg Paulus scored 18 points and was one of six players in double figures in the Blue Devils' 89-78 win over the third-ranked Tar Heels on Wednesday night in Chapel Hill, N.C., ending a three-game losing streak in the heated rivalry.

Glenbrook North's Jon Scheyer added 17 points for Duke (20-1, 8-0 Atlantic Coast Conference), which ran its spread-the-floor offense to perfection most of the night and repeatedly knocked down 3-point shots to control the game almost the entire way. Duke led by as many as 11 points in the first half and never trailed after the break, taking plenty of the drama out of the game and beating the Tar Heels for the first time since the 2005-06 season.

Duke shot 46 percent and went 13-for-29 from 3-point range, with Paulus going 6-for-8 from behind the arc.

Tyler Hansbrough had 28 points and 18 rebounds in what became virtually a one-man effort for the Tar Heels (21-2, 6-2), who looked a step off all night without injured point guard Ty Lawson. Lawson sprained his left ankle in the weekend win at Florida State.

Wisconsin 60, Iowa 54: Marcus Landry scored 16 points, Brian Butch added 12 and No. 8 Wisconsin held off host Iowa for its 13th victory in 14 games.

Joe Krabbenhoft had 8 points and 8 rebounds to help the Badgers (19-3, 9-1 Big Ten) pull into a tie for first place in the Big Ten with surprising Purdue.

Iowa didn't make it easy on Wisconsin, staying within one score for most of the second half, but the Badgers hit 10 straight free throws in the final 3:29 to seal their 10th win in 11 meetings with the Hawkeyes (11-13, 4-7).

Bradley 83, Missouri St. 71: Daniel Ruffin had a game-high 25 points to lead host Bradley (14-10, 7-5 Missouri Valley) to a win over Missouri State (11-13, 4-8).

Andrew Warren scored 19 points, Jeremy Crouch had 16 points and Theron Wilson added 13 points and 13 rebounds for Bradley, which never trailed in the game and led 36-19 at the half.

Memphis 77, SMU 48: Reserve guard Andre Allen scored a career-high 19 points, Joey Dorsey had 10 points and 14 rebounds and top-ranked Memphis beat visiting SMU (7-13, 1-6 C-USA). Memphis (22-0, 8-0) extended the nation's longest home-court winning streak to 45 games.
