No change on Cook County board of review
The head of the Cook County Democratic Party fought off an assault on his other job as a commissioner on the county board of review -- the office that decides if property tax assessments are correct.
Joseph Berrios defeated Jay Paul Deratany, despite an omnipresent television ad Deratany ran trying to link Berrios with county board President Todd Stroger.
The win, by a vote margin of 58.9 percent to 41.1 percent with 83 percent of the precincts counted, was a blow to county Assessor Jim Houlihan, who had backed Deratany heavily.
