Guilty plea in arson

Two Arlington Heights men will have to complete a Cook County sheriff's boot camp program after pleading guilty Monday to charges of arson and delivery of cocaine. Prosecutors have said Kyle Kelly, 19, of the 900 block of North Beverly Lane, solicited Alan Villagrana, 20, of the 1600 block of North Windsor Drive, to set fire to Kelly's father's home in hopes his father could collect on the insurance money. Authorities said Villagrana agreed, entering the home on the 1800 block of North Forest Avenue in Arlington Heights on Oct. 1 and dousing it with gasoline Kelly supplied. Villagrana then spray-painted gang symbols in an effort to throw off investigators, authorities have said. The home, which was vacant and had been on the market for months, sustained about $150,000 in damages. The two were arrested after police, acting on a tip, caught them trying to sell cocaine to an undercover officer, police said.
