East Dundee preschool to hold open house
Dennis Schultz, a former principal of Immanuel Lutheran School in East Dundee, remembers starting the preschool in 1973.
"We started with a total of 13 children. Four years later we were up to 18 children, and I understand that the current preschool has 90 to 100 children -- that is a brilliant story," Schultz said.
Schultz served as principal at Immanuel from 1968-77. "My grandchildren are now entering Immanuel Preschool, and I am very happy to have been a part of creating such a truly wonderful legacy -- and to see it is fantastic!"
When preschool doors open for the 2008-09 school year the school will celebrate 35 years of excellence in education. During the time it has operated the school has changed location and a few teachers, and has continually added students and curriculum. The biggest change came in the form of a new building in 2003. There is now room to offer seven different classes for 3-, 4- and almost 5-year-olds. Last year, Immanuel added an extended-care program to meet the needs of many parents. The extended-care area is in the same area as the preschool.
On Wednesday, the preschool will open its doors to the community and offer parents the opportunity to view the classrooms, talk to teachers, and take home information about next year's classes. Cindy Geye, preschool director, will be on hand to answer any questions, as well as Nancy Reimers who was hired by Schultz.
"We have grown so well since my first day in 1975! We have so much to offer our children. We have done a good job with keeping up with educational approaches while maintaining our balance of God first, family second, church and school third," Reimers said.
The open house is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 6. The preschool is inside the church building and has its own entrance from the west parking lot. For directions, call (847) 428-1010.
