Good reasons to back new school

Tuesday is the day we get to vote yes to have a new middle school built in the southwest corner of District 200. There are three big reasons to vote "yes" to this referendum:

1. This is for the children. The school will be built in the attendance area of the children and their families that actually use the school.

What a concept.

This school had been in the wrong spot for over 15 years now. It is time we fixed that.

2. This is a win for the city of Wheaton. They will have a great new gateway to downtown to showcase the town. And they can finally fix the flooding problem for Main Street.

Plus, revenue will go back to the taxpayers.

3. This is the least expensive option for us taxpayers. To say no to this referendum means that we will still have to fix the current Hubble building at a price tag over what we can build new. Plus, we then won't have the sale of the building to help bring down our bond debt. Also, the school will still be in the wrong place, we will still lose the ball fields and there is still the flooding problem.

A renovation of the current building will affect the other three middle schools too.

Since the renovation would take around three years it is possible that we will have to spread the students around and maybe even have split shifts at the three other middle schools. I certainly don't want my child inside a building while it is being stripped of asbestos or toxic mold.

Vote yes on Tuesday f r a new Hubble ! It is the right thing to do for our children and us taxpayers.
